NORTH Leigh opened up a threepoint lead at the top of Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West with a tense 1-0 win over Taunton Town.

Both teams headed into the match on maximum points after four games and Morgan Williams scored the only goal to preserve the hosts’ 100 per cent record.

The Millers started brightly with Williams shooting wide, but James Foster had to be alert to keep out Aidan Chainey’s long range effort.

After the break, Taunton went closest to scoring when Ben Carter hit the bar from 25 yards, but on 63 minutes the hosts found the net.

Elliott Osborne-Ricketts fed Williams in the box, who turned sharply and fired past Lloyd Irish.

Taunton pressed for an equaliser, but the hosts defended well and held on for victory.

However, Banbury went 2-1 behind when Moore scored his second of the game, tapping home a Garyn Preen cross and the Cinderford man went onto complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot.
