HEADINGTON A continued their fine early-season form to defeat Carterton 5-1 and return to the top of Division 1 in the Oxfordshire League, sponsored by Bridle Insurance.

Big wins for the rinks led by Howard Watts and Ian Snowdon saw Headington, not in action the previous week, go back to the summit.

Banbury Central thrashed Oxford City & County 6-0, running up more than 100 shots in the process.

For the second week running, Nigel Galletly’s rink led the way for Central, recording a 28-shot victory.

In Division 2, Watlington’s 6-0 defeat of near-neighbours Thame sent them top.

Banbury Chestnuts, previously undefeated in Division 3, were knocked off top spot following a 5-1 defeat at Chadlington.

Good wins for skips Ron Arthur and Peter Madeley, plus a tight victory for Philip Radbone gave the home side the spoils.

Witney Town grabbed the chance to go top with a solid performance away at Headington B, which saw them run out 5-1 victors, winning three of the four rinks.

With Banbury Central B not playing, Hanborough extended their lead at the top of Division 4, with a comfortable 4½-1½ win at home to South Oxford B.

Ken Williams’s 12-shot success guaranteed them the points.

Blackbird Leys moved to second with a 5-1 defeat of Florence Park, despite a 25 per cent shot penalty.

The unluckiest rink of the night was that of Dave Francis, from Woodstock.

Their 22-shot winning margin should have been sufficient to give his side victory at home to West Oxford, but Woodstock lost 5-1.
