LLOYD Smith was denied a knockout but still recorded a unanimous points win after a dominant display against Ashley Rosenberg at Gravesham ABC, Kent.
The Berinsfield lightheavyweight had to be on his guard against the Hornchurch fighter, who looked to get close and throw big punches.
But the taller Smith stayed on his back foot and countered well with both hands.
He had the better of the opening two rounds, and in the final three-minute encounter Rosenberg was knocked down.
Taking a count of eight, he got back up, and despite a wobble made it to the final bell.
But Smith’s efforts were recognised by the judges, who awarded him the fight.
Clubmate Michael McDonagh did not fare as well against Jack Beany, from nearby Rumbles ABC, in a 57kg featherweight clash.
The well-schooled fighter had a height and reach advantage over McDonagh, who still got on the front foot.
But the decision after three rounds went to the Kent fighter.
Berinsfield’s Harriet Healey has been selected for south of England’s squad to face London Diamonds Ladies on June 6.
