OXFORD Saints ran riot in their West Division 2 game at Torbay Trojans, winning 72-30.

It sees them top the table with four wins from their opening five Southern Conference matches.

Kev Brooks went over for the first score, with Spencer Duffy adding the extra point.

With Torbay looking for a quick reply, Aaron Butler was quickly shut down on his next drive, when Saints cornerback Mike Turner intercepted a pass and returned it 35 yards up the sideline for another score.

Duffy added another extra point to make it 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Saints wasted little time in extending their lead after the restart, when Ben Denton threw a pass to James Walter, who charged 30 yards into the end zone on just the second play of the drive.

Torbay reduced the deficit when Simon Race went over from six yards, and they were successful with their two-point conversion when Aaron Burke successfully crossed the line to make it 20-8.

However, Saints soon reasserted their superiority on the game, veteran running back Mike Oluwole and experienced defender Ali Galbraith adding touchdowns, with Duffy converting both to make it 34-8 at half-time.

Oxford stretched the lead straight after the restart.

On the first play of the drive, Denton handed the ball to Grant Phillips-Tebb, who bolted up the sideline for a 64-yard score, his first Saints touchdown.

Duffy kicked the extra point.

Then, after turning the ball over, strong running by Rob Johnson set up a one yard touchdown for Walter.

Duffy’s extra point made it 48-8.

With a big lead, Oxford rung the changes.

Although Tim Rogers scored for Torbay, with Burke adding a two-point conversion, Devon Powell scored for Saints with Galbraith going over for a two-point score of their own as they went into the last quarter 56-16 ahead.

There was a brief scare for the visitors when Torbay quickly added two touchdowns through Butler and Tim Rogers and a two-point conversion through Burke as they closed the score to 56-30.

But that was as good as it got for the hosts.

With second string quarterback David McCormack at the helm, Saints upped the tempo and were rewarded.

Harry Carr scored his first touchdown of the season with Walter adding an extra two points.

And then Walter – with his third of the day – went over, with Phillips-Tebb on the mark with another two-point conversion to complete a sensational display.
