Jorge Lorenzo held off the challenge of his Movistar Yahama teammate Valentino Rossi to win the French MotoGP in Le Mans yesterday.

The Spaniard, 28, rode an almost flawless race to secure his second consecutive victory, with Rossi second and Ducati’s fellow Italian, Andrea Dovizioso, third.

Bradley Smith came home in sixth place on his Monster Yamaha after a great battle with Marc Marquez and Andrea Iannone.

His fine effort sees the Oxfordshire rider move just one point behind sixth place in the riders championship standings.

Fellow Brit Cal Crutchlow crashed out of the race after eight laps.
