Berinsfield BC’s Michael McDonagh enjoyed a split points decision against Woking BC’s Charlie Lane in front of a packed house at Thames Valley BC’s show in Thatcham.

After a messy opening round, McDonagh got to work on the Woking southpaw, countering well with shots to the head and body.

Lane came out to rough McDonagh up in the final round, but the Oxfordshire fighter kept his composure, though he did receive a points deduction, for use of the shoulder, before getting the decision in his favour.

Harriet Healey got the better of Alexandra Richards from (Miguels BC) on another split decision.

Richards started strongly, pushing forward and throwing shots which Healey countered with combinations to head and body.

And after three exciting rounds, Healey got the verdict in her favour.

However, there was disappointment for Jordan Blake, who lost against George Brown (Ruislip BC) on a split decision.

In an even contest, the Berinsfield boxer had Brown on the back foot for three rounds, only for the Middlesex fighter to get the nod.

Meanwhile, Bicester BC duo Sammy Ait-Tales and Harley Pullen celebrated unanimous points wins at a show at Cheltenham.

Ait-Tales saw off fellow light middleweight, Northampton BC’s Connor Wall.

Pullen, 16, on his debut, defeated Thomas May (Weston BA).

Ait-Tales used his jab well, before letting his powerful left cross go and stunned his rival with a good punch late in the opening round.

Ait-Tales was in command by the second round, shaking Wall with a right uppercut.

Ait-Tales used his jab effectively in the final round, picking off Wall with neat combinations and taking the fight 30-27.

Pullen’s contest was a close affair, with the Bicester man edging it 29-28.
