Jason Plato savoured claiming the 90th win of his Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship career with victory in race two at Thruxton.

It came after a memorable duel with Rob Collard, who led early on before being passed by the Oxford driver in his Team BMR VW.

Collard piled on the pressure late in the race, flashing his lights on several occasions in an attempt to disrupt his rival.

But Plato defended brilliantly to take the chequered flag.

“I really enjoyed that,” he said. “I expected Rob to fall away, but he didn’t.

“I had to keep it tight and not over-push – it was a bit cat and mouse and some lateral thinking was required.”

The win followed a promising opening race, where Plato climbed from sixth to take fourth, behind leader Gordon Shedden.

Adam Morgan won the third race, with Plato finishing seventh to take fourth place in the standings.
