John Mills scored a brace as he ended DidcotTown season and his outstanding goalscoring season on a high with a victory at Wimborne in Saturday’s Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West game.

Mills’s goals, which took his tally for the season to an amazing 57 – 49 in the league – helped Didcot to finish seventh, their highest league position since relegation from the Premier Division in 2011.

The striker gave Didcot the lead in the 18th minute when a defensive mistake from Ian Oliver allowed him to fire home from close range.

Mills doubled the lead in the 33rd minute when yet another error put him clear.

Didcot continued the pressure in the second half and could have added a third when Jimmy Deabill crossed for Matt Woodley whose header was saved.

Mills almost scored another hat-trick, but was denied by keeper James Harvell.

With 15 minutes left, Wimborne’s James Stokoe headed in from an Ian Oliver Cross to halve the deficit, but Didcot held on.
