Oxford-based Jason Plato was feeling positive after claiming a victory, a fifth and an eighth place in the latest rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park.

But he said it could have been better had he not had a senior moment in race two.

Team BMR’s Plato wasted little time in beating Gordon Shedden’s Honda Civic Type R off the line in the first race.

He then had enough grunt in his VW CC to power past Colin Turkington before wrapping up an impressive win.

owever, a bad start in the second race saw Plato finish fifth behind winner Turkington.

Matt Neal won the final bout of the day, after squeezing his Honda into the lead with just two laps to go, with Plato eighth.

“I’m pretty pleased with the weekend on the whole,” said Plato.

“We took back quite a few of the points we lost with the puncture at Brands Hatch and won a race, which is always nice.

“I’ve made a couple of errors – I made a mistake in qualifying that cost us pole.

“In race two, I had a senior moment and didn’t have the car in gear when the lights went out at the start. That probably cost us a podium which is a shame, but from a team perspective it’s been brilliant.”

The championship now heads to Thruxton in Hampshire on 9/10 May.
