ASTON Rowant trainer Alan Hill is hoping Alpha Native can deliver the goods at tomorrow’s Kimblewick meeting at Kingston Blount.

The highlight of the course’s second race day of the season is the four-mile Mixed Open – the Philip Scouller Memorial Southern Grand National – which has attracted a high-class entry.

The hot favourite is likely to be Welsh raider Findlay’s Find, who gained his 21st career victory at Ystradowen last weekend.

The nine-year-old is difficult to beat when hitting top form, but Hill is hoping Alpha Native can stage a bid.

“Being by Alflora, he’ll stay every inch of the trip,” the handler said.

“He’s also entered in the Novice Riders’ (race), but was favourite for this race last year.”

Other potential runners include dual Open winner Brackloon High, who could bid to go one better than his recent Kimble second.

Moscow Blaze will be a danger if recovering last season’s good form, while Sarah Case’s Wither Yenot is an interesting newcomer to pointing, having won and been placed at Southwell under rules last summer.

Hill could also saddle Kings Legacy in the opening Confined Race.

Laura Thomas’ Full Throttle is likely to bid to confirm his recent course superiority over Kazuri Kate, but Hill is hopeful.

“We’ve done a lot of work with him and he is a more straightforward and betterbalanced horse this year,” he said.

The course has been working hard to provide the best ground, despite the warm weather.

Clerk of the course Stewart Nash said: “We put 50,000 gallons of water on it and will keep watering all week as the forecast is dry.”

The first race is scheduled for 2pm.
