Oxfordshire suffered a two-wicket defeat by Bedfordshire in the warm-up match at Ampthill yesterday.
Put in to bat, Oxon were bowled out for 229 with one ball of their 50 overs left.
After the loss of debutant Joe White, Oxon were put on the road to a decent total by a second-wicket stand of 85 between Hugo Darby and Shabaz Alam.
Darby struck one six and six fours in his 52, and Alam made 44 before both fell victim to the bowling of Ed Wharton.
Wharton went on to take 5-35 as the innings fell away, despite an unbeaten 27 from another debutant Great & Little Tew wicket-keeper Ashley Hubbert.
In reply, Will Rooney ran out Bedfordshire opener Charlie Thurston for a duck. Karl Penhale and Luke Ryan to reduced Bedfordshire to 122-6.
But George Bacon, with 67 not out from 77 balls, and Sam Johnson saw the hosts almost home with 14 balls to spare.
