ROY CARROLL has warned Rangers No.1 keeper Allan McGregor that he's after his position between the sticks.

The experienced Northern Ireland shot-stopper has arrived on a one-year deal after leaving West Ham at the end of last season.

And Carroll hasn't turned up at his boyhood hero's to make up the numbers.

"I'm looking to play," said the former Manchester United man confidently.

"It's a big opportunity for me tand I'm not here to sit around for a year and take it all in.

"The manager wants competition for places and I'll be pushing Allan. He's a good young keeper and I'll be trying to keep him on his toes."

Carroll is a bit behind the rest of the squad in terms of pre-season training and is doing double sessions here in Germany to get himself up to full speed.

He is likely to make his debut against Falkirk this Saturday when Rangers return home to play in Alex Totten's testimonial match.

"Obviously it didn't take me long to make my mind up on the move when talks started. I've always been a big Rangers fan and it was a great feeling to sign," said the 29 year-old who made his name at Wigan before going to Old Trafford.

"Hopefully I can play my part in a successful season. We need to be winning things again and there is a lot of determination in the squad.

"From what I've seen in the games, and in training, we have a lot of good players here, and we need to make sure we get up and running and start the season the way we aim to go on."
