MOTHERWELL boss Mark McGhee's signing summit with former team-mate Felix Magath has brought a loan move for Bundesliga players closer.

McGhee spent a day with his ex-Hamburg pal - now boss of Wolfsburg - after temporarily leaving Well's Austrian training camp.

"There are a couple of players that he has that could be of interest to us," he said.

"These players are good enough to go straight into our side, but they may need to come over for a period to acclimatise themselves, to ensure they want to come to Scotland as this is a new concept for Bundesliga players."

The former Brighton and Wolves boss is still interested in Leicester's ex-Rangers midfielder Stephen Hughes, whose proposed move to Hearts has stalled, and a loan deal for Celtic's Adam Virgo.

"Stephen Hughes and Adam Virgo are still options that we are looking at," he said.

"At this stage that's all they are as we also have the two Poles on trial in Austria and the possibility of two Germans along with others we have on our short list.

"I will take time to decide who to add to the squad. We have good players here already, but I still want to add another three or four."

The Steelmen have been joined by defender Mark Reynolds following his exertions at the Under-20 World Cup.

They are set to play their first pre-season friendly against Romanian side Dinamo Bucharest today after heavy rain forced the cancellation of their clash against 1860 Munich.

That was a relief to the Motherwell boss, who wants to spend more time on his players' fitness after succeeding Maurice Malpas last month.

"It takes longer than two weeks to get the players up to where we want them to be," he said.

"There is short-term stuff we can fix now, but there is longer-term work we will have to keep progressing over the season.

"None of this is a criticism of the previous regime, we are looking at a different type of player, more in the physical rather than the technical sense, which hasn't been asked of them before."
