A MAN arrested during a terrorism inquiry has been released without charge.

Asif Siddique, 25, had been detained by Central Scotland Police under the Terrorism Act 2000. He was released yesterday evening from the top security Govan police station in Glasgow, where he was taken after his arrest on Monday.

Officers swooped at the family home in Alva, Clackmannanshire. After his initial 48 hours detention, police were granted an extra 72 hours to question Mr Siddique.

In a statement Central Scotland Police said: "A 25-year-old man arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000, in Alva, Clackmannanshire, on April 24, has been released without charge."

Mr Siddique's brother Mohammed Atif Siddique, 20, was charged on Thursday with offences under Section 58(1b) of the Terrorism Act at a special court in Falkirk.

The offences relate to the possession of documents or records containing information "likely to be useful" to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism. He was arrested at the family home on April 13. He remains in custody and is expected to appear at court again next week.

The men's uncles Mohammed Niaz, 45, and Mohammed Rafiq, 40, were also arrested as part of the same investigation, but released without charge on Wednesday.
