A new guide for teenagers will advise them on how to protect themselves, whether on the streets, online or on their mobiles.

Released this week, Wise Guides: Personal Safety is the latest in a line of guidebooks aimed specifically at the teen market.

Written by Anita Naik, who also contributes a regular agony aunt column to Closer magazine, the book aims to promote selfawareness among teenagers. Recent figures reveal that 25-per cent of all teenagers have been victims of crime, with 50-per cent having experienced a violent crime, and 30-per cent never having reported this crime.

Naik, who was inspired to write the guide after being the victim of a race attack as a teenager, said:

"A lot of people think it's important to learn to fight back but most important is learning how to avoid dangerous situations.

"Children are brought up to be respectful of adults, so when they are approached by an adult in a dangerous situation it's quite hard to override that.

"Part of the book is letting teenagers know it's okay to shout and scream and push people away."
