Former Olympian Brian Whittle came out of retirement for his first race in two years at Grangemouth last night, only to lose to a Scot over 400m for the first time since 1984.
Hugh Kerr, his Ayr Seaforth clubmate, clocked 48.6sec to beat Whittle by a tenth after a dogfight in the home straight. Whittle finished second in the 100m behind Brian Doyle of Cumbernauld, who clocked 11.0 to Whittle's 11.3.
Golf
WORLD No.1 Greg Norman has turned down a lucrative offer to face Tiger Woods in a head-to-head showdown on television. Norman said he declined the best-of-three challenge because the timing of the event was not suitable.
Snooker
GLASGOW'S Graeme Dott kept up his recent impressive form with a 5-3 win over Graham Horne in the Team Pro Masters Superleague. Hamilton's Drew Henry drew 4-4 with Marcus Campbell.
