Chipping Norton School’s Megan Humphreys shone with Oxfordshire’s top result at the English Schools’ Cross Country Championships at Witton Country Park, Blackburn.

The 17-year-old finished a highly-creditable 11th in a field of 300 runners in the senior girls’ race run over 4.3km.

She recorded 16mins 33secs to finish less than a minute behind Lincolnshire’s Abbie Donnelly, who took gold in 15.49.

Helene Greenwood (Oxford High) was 71st in 17.45, closely followed by Kingham Hill’s Emma Slevin, who was 78th in 17.54.

Nick Wiltshire (St Birinus, Didcot) produced Oxon’s best boys’ result with 15th in a field of 341 runners in the 3.6km junior race.

He recorded 12mins 21secs to finish less than a minute behind Hampshire’s Zakariya Mahammed, who took gold in 11.39.

Harry Rowe (Gillots, Henley) made it into the top 100 in 97th in 13.02.

In the intermediate girls’ race over 3.6km, Elizabeth Dorey (Cherwell) pipped teammate Fiona Bunn (St Helen & St Katharine, Abingdon) as the pair finished 32nd and 33rd in 13.39 and 13.40 respectively.

Emily Thompson (Warriner, Bloxham) was 68th in 13.56.

Danny Ray (Magdalen College School, Oxford) came 64th in the senior boys’ race run over 6.7km.

Faringdon's Will Crisp also returned a top-100 finish with 92nd in the 19.41 in the 5.5km intermediate boys’ race.

Oxon team manager Terry Mawdesley is stepping down after 39 years.

During his time in charge, Oxon have won four national titles – Sarah Alt (1981), Nikki Slater (1993 & 94) and Hattie Dean (1999).

Meanwhile, Oxford City’s Jade O’Dowda finished fifth at the England Under 17 Combined Events Indoor Championships in Sheffield.

She recorded 3,349 points for the pentathlon to finish just ahead of Radley’s Alice Hopkins, who was sixth with a personal best 3,311.
