OXFORD City slipped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Worcester City in last night’s Vanarama Conference North clash – their fourth successive loss.

Despite dominating the first half with some attractive football, Justin Merritt’s side were unable to create many clear opportunities.

A Tom Winters free-kick did not trouble the home goalkeeper, who was then alert to keep out Luke Coulson’s long-range effort.

A Declan Benjamin shot lacked power and direction as the teams went into half-time level.

However, Worcester came out a more positive side in the second period and got the all-important goal on the hour mark.

A corner from Sean Geddes found Wayne Thomas, who rifled a shot in.

City rarely threatened in the second period as Worcester claiming the points.

Meanwhile, North Leigh moved into the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West play-off places after an impressive 4-1 victory at Wimborne.

Aaron Woodley crossed for Jamie Cook to open the scoring after 15 minutes.

Mark Gamble equalised from the penalty spot after a foul from Jon Else.

However, Morgan Williams made it 2-1 on 48 minutes with a right-foot effort that went in off the inside of a post.

Cook grabbed his second of the game seven minutes later and Woodley netted the goal of the match late on with a 25-yard looping volley.

The results sees the Millers replace Oxfordshire rivals Didcot in the final play-off berth.
