Gus Jones, who scored Oxford University’s final try in their record-breaking 43-6 victory over Cambridge in the Varsity Match last month, makes his seasonal debut for Henley Hawks in their National 2 South trip to Cambridge’s city club tomorrow.

The 20-year-old flanker joined Henley from Oxford Harlequins last season, but played only once for them.

Jones, who was winning his third Blue at Twickenham, scored four tries for England Under 20 when they won the IRB Junior World Championship last season.

In a re-shaped back row, Jones will be on the flank with Matt Jones, as leaders Henley make several changes to try and freshen up the side following their 29-28 victory at home to Launceston last week.

The starting line-up shows two changes in the backs. Connor Murphy is still not available, so Mark Bruce comes in at scrum-half. George Eastwell, having recovered from flu, will partner Ed Yarnton at centre.

Chinnor, who struggled to defeat lowly Lydney 22-17 last week, will still be without their suspended pair of Ian Stock and Jack Hayes for the tough visit to Southend Saxons.

They have bolstered their ranks by signing United States Under 21 player Christian Osberg.

The lock forward, who has been playing club rugby in Italy, comes straight in on the bench.

Chinnor make one change to the starting line-up with Robbie Martey replacing Jaryd Robinson on the right wing.

“We beat Southend comfortably at home, but it will be a different story at their place,” said head coach Matt Williams.

Two of the four Oxfordshire Cup first-round matches will be played this weekend.

Champions Oxford Harlequins, whose National 3 South West trip to Hornets on Saturday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, face Oxford University Greyhounds at Abingdon School on Sunday.

Henry Day is unavailable for Grove’s tie at home to Banbury tomorrow and is replaced by the returning Huw Lewis.

Jimmy Wallbridge comes in for the injured Steve Dixey at hooker.

The other two ties have resulted in walk-overs for Chinnor 2nd and Henley 2nd over Wallingford and Alchester respectively.

Three Oxon clubs are involved in Southern Counties Cup semis.

Bicester travel to High Wycombe in the Intermediate Cup, Abingdon visit Slough in the Senior Vase, while Harwell entertain Risborough in the Junior Vase.
