CRICKETERS Arms B came close to a shock against Premier Section visitors Kidlington Green Social Club in the Greene King ODDA Winter League men’s seven-a-side competition.

James Crowther put the Section 3 outfit in front by winning the opening match.

Joe Palmer and Adam Bowman replied, but Brian Cross struck for the underdogs to make it 2-2.

Peter Gough edged the Green Club in front once more, before Ben Washington tied the match once again.

It set up a decider, where Sean Holly just got the better of Mick Woodley 2-1 to give Kidlington Green a hard fought 4-3 win.

The chances of a surprise result at Section 4 side Garsington Social Club B went out of the window early on against Cowley Workers Club, of Section 1.

Wayland Honour, Michael Oliver and Kevin Dickerson won as the visitors raced into a 3-0 lead.

Harry Norton pulled one back, but Phil Cook secured a comfortable 4-1 victory to send the higher-ranked side through.

Catherine Wheel A (Section 4) made smooth progress at home to Gladiators Social Club (Section 6) Colin Walton and Ralph Harvey gave the away side a 2-1 lead, sandwiching a win for Michael Ashburner.

But Catherine Wheel stormed back through Will Smith, Butch Bower (180) and Dale Jacobs to put them into the next round after a 4-2 win.
