ABOUT 150 supporters have taken advantage of Oxford United’s offer of free transport to tomorrow’s game at Hartlepool United.

It means three packed coaches will leave the Kassam Stadium in the morning to begin the 480-mile round trip to County Durham.

And it became even more of a bargain this week, with the Pools slashing ticket prices to £10 for the game.

The free coach travel comes a week after United dished out 2,000 tickets to local schoolchildren and offered season ticket holders the chance to bring a friend for free to their 2-1 win over Bury.

  • Latest United news:

Mark Ashton, chief executive, said: “We have talked since we arrived in the summer about the importance of the fans.

“I think the away supporters this season have been absolutely fantastic, you only have to look at this week with those who travelled up in the rain to watch the team at Tranmere.

“This is just a little way of saying thank you.

“It’s one of the longest journeys we’ll do this season, so it felt the right thing to do.”

Elsewhere, United have officially advertised for the community director role as revealed in Monday’s Oxford Mail.

Anyone interested in applying should contact Ashton on ceo@oufc.co.uk.
