PROLIFIC Didcot Town goalscorer John Mills has pledged to remain with the club until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old striker, who has found the net 33 times already this season, last week turned down an offer from Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division side Hereford United and said he has no plans to leave Didcot.

“We’ve sat down and had an agreement that I’ll stay until the end of the season unless something like a pro offer comes along,” he said.

Latest United news:

“In that case they’ve said they’ll let me have a talk with them, but if it’s anything less than that then I’m happy staying here.”

A move to Hereford would have seen Mills step up a level.

But with the Bulls’ future looking increasingly uncertain and with Didcot in impressive form in Division 1 South & West, Mills admitted it was not a difficult decision to make.

He said: “There was a lot of press recently about Hereford going to court because of their money troubles and, to be honest, if I want to push myself I’ll try and push higher.

“It’s also a lot of travelling and I didn’t really fancy travelling two-and-a-half hours down the motorway every night.

“We’re pushing for promotion ourselves and everything’s nice and settled and we’re really together as a team.

“That’s the aim this season, to go up. We all know it as a group, the play-offs are our ambition this year.”

However, Mills still maintains an ambition to earn himself a professional contract and has not ruled out a big move in the near future.

“Every footballer always wants to play at the highest level they can,” he said.

“I’m 24 now so if it’s going to happen it’ll have to happen soon, but we’ll just see what happens.

“I’m not forcing anything, I’m not pushing for anything, because if the goals keep coming then people will keep looking and keep asking questions.”
