John Mills could be playing his last game for Didcot Town at Merthyr Town tomorrow after Hereford United put in a bid for the 31-goal hitman.

The Evo-Stik Premier Division club made an approach for Mills last week and he is expected to give them a decision early next week.

Didcot say they will do all in their power to keep Mills, 25, at the Evo-Stik Southern League club.

And last night, Mills was due to sit down with joint bosses Ian Concannon and Jamie Heapy, chairman John Bailey to work out a possible deal for him to remain at the Division 1 South & West high-fliers.

“Hereford put in a seven-day bid for him and they have now offered him a very good deal,” said Concannon.

“I think he is meeting them on Monday and the money they have offered him is very good.

“I don’t think there is anyone in the country who has scored 31 goals by the end of November, so it would be a massive blow to lose him.

“But we’ll be having a chat with Millsy and our financial man to see if we can work out a way to keep him.

“I have spoken to Millsy who has told me he is enjoying his football at Didcot.”

Concannon added: “It’s not great timing, but we knew one day that if he kept scoring every single week that someone would eventually come in for him.

“He’s done very well and we have had a lot of enquiries for him.

“We’ll just have to see whether he enjoys a two-hour commute going back and forth to Hereford each day, with all that traffic.”

Concannon admitted he has no idea what Mills will decide to do.

He added: “I have no idea if he will go or not, so we’ll just have to sit tight.

“I had a chat with him on Wednesday and he informed us to what has been going on .

“Hopefully, we can nip it in the bud and Millsy will stay.

“Losing him would be a big loss, but we have other players that are capable of stepping up to the plate.”

Meanwhile, Concannon confirmed that Mills would take his place in the squad for the FA Trophy third qualifying round trip to South Wales.

Tha Railwaymen, who will be at full strength, are looking to avenge the 3-1 defeat they suffered in the league earlier in the season.
