CREWS from Abingdon School and Radley College set high standards in the Great Britain junior early identification trials over the 5000m River Witham course at Boston, Lincolnshire.

Adam Teece and Tom Digby, of Abingdon School, came first in the boys’ coxless pairs, with Charlie Elwes and James Murrell, of Radley College, close in second place.

Back in August, Digby and Elwes rowed together for Britain in the silver medal winning coxless four at the world junior championships in Hamburg.

They were coxed by Hugo Marsh, of St Edward’s School, exemplifying the nature of the GB junior teams which almost every year have representatives from these three traditional Oxfordshire rowing schools.

Among the 550 scullers setting off on Saturday will be Sean Morris of Wallingford.

Last year, he won the G category (aged 65 to 70). He now aims to add Masters H to his long string of national titles.
