A disastrous double-bogey seven at the final hole left Eddie Pepperell virtually at the end of the field after the first round of the Dubai World Tour Championship yesterday.
The 23-year-old from Abingdon carded a four-over par 76, the second worst round of the day in the 60-strong field for this elite tournament.
The Frilford Heath golfer already trails world No 1 and Race To Dubai champion Rory McIlroy by a full ten shots.
McIlroy leads the tourament on 66 along with fellow Irishman Shane Lowry.
In today’s second round, Pepperell, who qualified 50th for this event,is partnering fellow Englishman and world No 1 Luke Donald.
