Megan Humphreys made it two wins in two weeks with an impressive display in round two of the Apex Sports Chiltern Cross Country League.

The Oxford City athlete won the combined under 17/20 ladies’ race at Keysoe Equestrian Centre, near Bedford by 21 seconds.

Humphreys followed up her success in the Oxford Mail League at Ascott-under-Wychwood and improved from fourth last time out in the Chiltern.

She completed the 4.8km course, which included part of the three-day eventing water jump, in 18mins 21secs to see off Alanah Harris (Bedford & County).

Other City juniors to impress included Libby Newhouse, who came second in the under 11 girls’ race over 1.9km, clocking 8.01.

Clubmate Alex Scrivener was sixth in the 3km under 13 girls’ event and fifth in Division 1 with a time of 11.45.

Led home by Simon Fisher, who recorded 30.30 for the 8.6km course, City had six men in the Division 1 top 100.

City finished eighth on the day and took them to tenth in the overall standings– three places above the relegation zone.

The race doubled up as the annual Oxford University versus RAF challenge, with Dark Blue athlete Miles Unterreiner the first man home in 27.25.

Banbury Harriers’ Tim Wright (30.12) was sixth in Division 2, with Headington Road Runners’ Simon Kerr (30.36) seventh.

Headington were the leading overal Division 2 team on the day and also topped the men’s and ladies senior and veterans’ tables.

As a result, Headington climbed to third in the standings.

Fresh from from last week’s Oxford Mail League victory, Diane Moore led the way for the ladies, completing the 5.8km course in 21.44 to finish ninth overall and first in Division 2.

Headington’s Jude Craft (23.03), Rebecca Campbell (23.24) and Rebecca Shaw (24.26) also finished inside the division’s top ten.

With the top two securing promotion to Division 1, Headington closed to within 128 points of second-placed Tring.

Abingdon’s Kie Francis was the fifth Division 2 runner home in 11.44 for the 3km course.

Woodstock Harriers’ Martin Townsend was the first vet 50 man home in the Druid Challenge on the Ridgeway, completing the three-day 84-mile event in 14hrs 23mins 42secs to finish 23rd overall.
