Former jockey Graham Bradley has been cleared of training horses without holding a licence by a British Horseracing Authority disciplinary panel.

The 53-year-old, who lives at Sparsholt, near Wantage, faced charges that alleged he was training horses under Brendan Powell’s name.

Powell, who trains at Upper Lambourn, was also cleared of charges that he ran horses in his name when they were trained by Bradley, who is not a licensed trainer.

Bradley, who has been assisting Powell, applied for a training licence in May last year, but that has still to be approved.

He said: “I am just very pleased it is all over, so it is onwards and upwards now.

“I will probably reapply for a licence now. I applied on May 25, 2013 and this has just been hanging on ever since.

“They said they would not listen to any licence application until this was finished.”

A relieved Powell admitted he had lost horses and owners over the case.

“It’s a massive relief,” he said. “Hopefully I can get on with training horses now.

“It’s been something that’s been hanging over me for a year. I understand the BHA have a job to do, and I respect them for that.

“I knew in my own heart and mind that we’d done nothing wrong. I’ve lost owners and horses over it. It takes its toll.”

BHA media manager Robin Mounsey said: “We are obviously disappointed at the disciplinary panel’s verdict, but it is impossible for us to comment further at present without being in possession of the panel’s reasons for their decision.”
