JAMES Lewis says a first win will make all the difference to London Welsh’s season.

The Exiles host Bordeaux in the European Challenge Cup tonight (7.45) targeting a maiden victory after seven straight defeats in 2014-15.

Centre Lewis, 26, says Welsh are confident they can end that miserable run if they continue to progress.

“I believe we can,” he said. “We had a disastrous start, but each week are building.

“One win will be crucial to get everything going and be the springboard.”

Lewis added: “We don’t have excuses. We know what we are doing wrong.

“Hopefully, one win will change all that.”

Welsh produced an improved showing in losing 28-18 at Lyon on Saturday, despite bringing in several fringe players, like Lewis.

“It was mixed feelings in training this week,” said Lewis.

“We were happy with the performance because it was a big step forward, but we still didn’t get the win.
