Dick Walsh became Oxford & District League singles champion for the first time after victory on finals night at the Kassam Stadium.

However, his triumph over Six Bells Kidlington teammate Roger Goodall was soured by a section of the watching crowd.

A controversial final saw Walsh beat Goodall 2-0, but the match will be best remembered for some unsporting behaviour from Team Monarch behind the throw, who barracked Goodall when he was in action.

Walsh won the opening leg on a three-stick shoot-out after both players scored two.

He then set three in the second leg, and with the noise level rising, Goodall could hit only two in reply.
