Jack Brooks said being nominated for the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) player of the year was an added bonus to a great season.

The Yorkshire paceman, who hails from Tiddington, made the shortlist for tomorrow’s ceremony in London alongside county teammate Adam Lyth, Warwickshire’s Jeetan Patel and Kent’s Darren Stevens.

Former Oxfordshire bowler Brooks took 68 wickets as he helped Yorkshire to the LV= County Championship title.

“It’s been a pretty special six months,” said the 30-year-old seamer, who voted for former England Under 19s batsman Lyth.

“The personal things that come my way are an extra added bonus, but it is a team game at the end of the day.

“It’s pretty special to be nominated for that award because it is chosen by your peers.

“It will be nice to have my name up there.”

Oxford Mail columnist Brooks added: “My target at the beginning of the season was that you always want to win the league.

“Getting 50 wickets was the holy grail. So to get 50-plus and end up with nearly 70 was quite ridiculous.

“I am a lot more confident and back myself a lot more than in previous years.

“I have made myself into an important part of the team.”
