PLACES go on sale today for Blenheim Palace’s annual triathlon, the UK’s second largest challenge of its kind and a major charity fundraiser.

The Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research Blenheim Palace Triathlon is expected to attract 7,000 people over the June 13 and 14 weekend next year.

Participants are encouraged to raise sponsorship cash for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. In the past five years, £800,000 has been raised at the Woodstock event.

Those who raise £300 for the charity will get a tri-suit, tri-belt and access to a VIP area. All tickets are discounted until December 31.

The event has attracted top triathletes such as Team GB’s Vicky Holland and Multi Sport World Champion Richard Stannard.

Competitors complete a 750m swim in its lake, 19.8km by bike, 5.7km run in groups banded according to ability.

The head of sports events at the charity, Matt Lawley, said: “Last year over 1,000 triathletes raised over £250,000 towards improving the lives of blood cancer patients. The camaraderie amongst all that took part was inspiring.”

James Robinson, managing director of organisers IMG Challenger World, said: “The triathlon is a unique occasion, giving participants the opportunity to swim, bike and run their way around the stunning grounds of Blenheim Palace.

“Participants are encouraged to enter as soon as possible.”
