SOUTHEND United striker Myles Weston is out to show Oxford United what they missed when they visit Roots Hall tomorrow.
The 26-year-old held talks with Gary Waddock in June and was on the verge of agreeing a move, before a U-turn saw him opting to team up with Southend.
“I came very, very close to being an Oxford player and I was supposed to sign for them, but I decided to join Southend instead,” he said.
“It felt like it was the right club and it was the right decision for me at the time.
“I’m happy to be here and I’m confident everything will soon start to click in to place for us.”
Weston has scored once in seven appearances for Southend, who have not won in their last four games in all competitions.
The Shrimpers have an excellent recent record against the U’s, winning eight of their last ten meetings.
But Weston is adamant Michael Appleton’s side, who are also struggling for form, will be tough opponents.
“We can’t take anything for granted and it’s a big game for both teams,” said the former Gillingham forward.
“We’re playing for three points and we need them.
“We haven’t won for a couple of games now and this is a great chance for us to get back on track.”
