DAVIDSTOW VILLAGE CUP FINAL PREVIEW - GREAT & LITTLE TEW V WOODHOUSE GRANGE
GREAT & Little Tew coach Phil Slatter can’t wait for his charges to take the field at Lord’s on Sunday.
Slatter was a stalwart opening bowler at Tew and returned to the club as a coach when his son Curtly joined.
Since then, he and captain Andy Harris have overseen Tew’s promotion to the Home Counties Premier League and now a final at the home of cricket.
“My message to them is just go out there and enjoy it,” said Slatter.
“Play the way they have been.
“I am probably looking forward to it more than some of the players to be honest.
“We have given ourselves the opportunity to do something very special.”
Tew’s youth system has excelled in recent years, with brothers Jack and Matt Taylor, who play for Gloucestershire, the best examples.
“It’s fantastic and I have loved watching them develop so far,” said Slatter.
“They are a really good group of guys.”
Sunday is Tew’s first Lord’s appearance, while Woodhouse Grange are two-time former winners.
“We like to bat first and get runs on the board because we back our bowlers to defend whatever we set,” said Slatter.
“I don’t know anything about Woodhouse Grange. We are going in with an open mind.
“If we play the way we can, we should be confident.”
