JASON Plato believes his car is getting better and better after a mixed weekend at Knockhill.

The biggest crowd at the venue in 15 years witnessed three drivers picking up their first wins of the season in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

And while Oxford’s Plato, the MG KX Clubcard Fuel Save driver, had to settle for a second, fifth and tenth-place finish, he was in upbeat mood.

Plato is third in the overall standings, 16 points behind Gordon Shedden and 39 off leader Colin Turkington.

“We made some pretty big changes to the car between the races today and it improved,” he said.

“It was apparent that the soft tyre was better, so it would’ve been interesting to see how we’d have done against Mat Jackson on the same tyres.

“I’m more confident with the car now and we’re not a million miles off.”

Plato came fifth in the opening race, Matt Neal taking victory, before an improved performance brought a second-place finish in the next behind Jackson.

The third race went to Rob Collard, with Plato involved in a couple of incidents down the field, one of which, involving Rob Austin, will be reviewed at Rockingham in two weeks’ time.
