OXFORD City returned with a clutch of medals after a strong showing in the British Masters Championship at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

A haul of four gold, three silver and two bronzes represented a successful weekend.

Bruce Hendrie led the way with two golds and a silver in the men’s 65 200m, 400m and 800m respectively.

Gwyneth Hueter set a British record in the women’s 55 2,000m steeplechase in a time of 8.56.88.

Les Newell put in a great display to triumph in the M35 1,500m, produced a fine finish to win by three seconds in 4mins 7.92secs.

In the previous race, Sarah Davies had taken the silver in the W40 1500m (5.04.23) and husband Gareth Davies won bronze in the long jump.

Margaret Coombe completed the medal haul with bronze in the W70 javelin (14.22m).

  • THREE Radley athletes brought back five medals from Birmingham.

Paula Woodland Owen (W35) won bronze in the 100m in 13.02secs and then smashed the field to take gold in the 400m hurdles in 1min 07.45secs.

Alastair Duncan (M55) gained silver in the 400m with a time of 59.5, before coming fifth in the 200m (25.78).

Lyn Ahmet (W60) finished fifth in the 100m (17.25), before landing bronze in the long jump (3.33m) and silver in the triple jump (7.24m).

  • BICESTER’S David Kuester won a gold and a bronze medal in Birmingham.

Competing in the M70 age group, Kuester won the javelin with 32.42m and was third in the heavy hammer in 13.97m.
