County captain Emma Tolson helped North Oxford ease their relegation fears in Oxfordshire LTA Wilson League Ladies’ Division 1.

She won both rubbers with partner Julie Wood in a 3-1 victory at Oxford City.

Portcullis secured early promotion to the top flight next season by beating Goring 3-1 in Division 2.

Banbury put a dent in second-placed North Oxford’s title ambitions by beating them 3-1.

In Men’s Division 2, last year’s relegated teams Abingdon and Norham Gardens slugged out a 2-2 draw, a result that keeps Norham top.

The Oxfordshire over 70s men’s team of Tony Gale, Ian Jelfs, Mike Morgan and captain Roger Selby secured promotion into Division 2 of the Senior Inter-county League with a 6-2 victory away to Northumberland.

Oxfordshire’s over 65 women jumped to second place in Division 3, by beating promotion rivals Staffordshire 5-4 after a shoot-out.

Representing Oxfordshire were Stephie Blake, Andi Padbury, Caroline Gould and Penny Waldie. Next up for the ladies is the crunch match at home to Scotland West on August 21.

Oxfordshire suffered three heavy defeats in the Under 9 County Cup at Oxstalls Tennis Centre, Gloucester.

Their team of Bobby Hornby, Arthur Manson, Monty Slater, Jasmine Conway, Hannah Denly, Florence Tuthill and Susanna Wright started with a 12-6 loss to Buckinghamshire.

That was followed by 6-2 defeats against both Hertfordshire and Middlesex.
