Matt Woods took five wickets as Great & Little Tew recorded an 88-run victory at Chesham to move off the foot of the Division 2 table on Saturday.

The success sees Tew leapfrog their rivals and provides a first win in five matches.

Chasing Tew’s 217-9, Chesham made a torrid start as Woods removed Barnaby Atkins and Mark Eteen to leave the hosts on 4-2.

Andy Harris removed Andy Goddard before then trapping Jason Rance lbw.

When Joe White had Brendan O’Donovan caught by Harry Smith, Chesham were reeling at 57-5.

Although the visitors staged a revival to get to 105-7, Woods returned for a second spell and removed Matthew Rance, Jack McIver and Christopher Royals to finish with figures of 5-43.

Ian Bryan took the last wicket as Chesham were all out for 129.

Earlier, Tew’s innings had been built on a number of decent partnerships.

Ashley Hubbert fell cheaply, but White and Jordan Garrett (40) took the score to 62 before the former perished.

Tew looked well-set at 90-2, but quickly fell to 103-6, before Curtly Slatter and skipper Harris steadied the ship.

The duo put on 38 for the sixth wicket, before another solid partnership of 45 for the next wicket between Harris and Lloyd Brock helped Tew set a competitive total.

Woods then took centre stage with a fine individual display.
