ON ALMOST any other week, Alan Goodgame’s 17 for Six Bells C Kidlington would have been the week’s top scorer.
He came close to becoming the third maximum man of the night, but missed with his 13th stick.
Backed up by Andy Beal (4-5-4), Bells won 33-30, 29-22, 30-24 at Red Lion A Eynsham, for whom Martin Herbert (3-6-4) also claimed a baker’s dozen.
Playing his first game of the season, Philip Adams (6-5-3) opened with a six, but it could not prevent Cricketers B going down 2-1 at Garsington Sports A 28-24, 25-27, 30-21.
Adrian Shepherd (6-4-5) as New Club A won a tight contest 2-1 away at Black Prince.
The visitors won the opening leg by the odd doll 26-25, lost the next by the same margin 28-27, before taking the decider 31-24.
Six Bells Quarry stayed unbeaten in Section 2, thanks to a 2-1 win at The Griffin.
After taking the opening leg 22-15, they lost the next on three sticks after it was tied 19-19, but preserved their record with a 23-21 success in the final leg.
Steve Tooke (5-4-5) impressed as Chequers B won their basement clash in Section 3 at home to Masons Arms A.
Tooke’s 14-doll haul set up the 22-18, 19-14, 23-16 whitewash.
Original Swan A took maximum points from a very close match in Section 4 with the Pheasant Inn A.
Swan took the first two legs on three sticks after they were tied 14-14, 15-15, before winning the final leg 18-16.
Section 5 leaders New Club B had to come from behind and for their 2-1 win at home to Brill Sports Club A.
Brill went ahead on three sticks after the first leg ended 16-16, but the hosts hit back 15-14, 16-15.
