JACK BROOKS: Getting away from it all has been real tonic
4:00pm Thursday 3rd July 2014 in Sport
So we are over halfway through the season now and I am currently on a seven to ten-day break from playing as my body is exhausted.
I keep getting told I have bowled more overs than any other county bowler, which maybe explains why.
I actually feel pretty strong and fit still, but have certainly noticed the fatigue I get later in the day in the Championship games on bowling days.
I just crash out on my bed, be it at home or in the hotel, as soon as I wolf down some dinner.
This isn’t the norm for me as I’m usually capable of sitting in the bar or a pub and having a couple of cold refreshments and socialising, but I think maybe my body and age is telling me otherwise.
The rest itself isn’t just sat around sleeping and twiddling my thumbs.
Ihave had a diary routine with gym and a couple of bowling sessions just to keep my legs going and make sure I don’t lose rhythm, but on the whole it has been to put my feet up and get away from the cricket environment to recharge.
I managed to get back to the mighty Oxfordshire last weekend and catch up with family and friends.
I also watched a little of the Banbury v Oxford HCPL match as well as seeing my brother, Nathan, skipper Tiddington seconds in the village just to make sure I watched some proper cricket in my time off.
As for the past month with Yorkshire it has gone very well.
We are currently top of the league with six Championship games to go and sitting nicely in the T20 North group in a quarter-final qualifying position while also playing some fine cricket.
I am still feeling as though I’m bowling as well as I ever had and just have a knack of taking wickets even when not in great rhythm.
But there is a long way to go in terms of me needing to stay fit and more importantly to make sure I still contribute to Yorkshire winning games.
Even with England pinching our players, we are still doing that, which shows how strong our squad is when young lads and players on the fringes are coming in and making telling contributions.
