HEADINGTON A look well on the way to the Division 1 title as the Oxford & District League, sponsored by Yarnton Nurseries, reached its halfway point.

The leaders’ 118 shots was the highest in the league this season and sealed a 6-0 home win over Shiplake.

Mark Charlett was the star again with the highest shot count (46) and biggest win of the season (43).

Oxford City & County A continued their revival as the division’s bottom side a fortnight ago climbed to third thanks to a second successive 6-0 whitewash, this time with a 100-58 win over visitors Witney Mills.

Mike Peterson’s 37 shots helped them reach three figures as Mills slipped to third bottom.

Below them Banbury Central gained a much-needed 3½-2½ win at home to Carterton, with Ian Whelpton’s last wood earning his rink a draw to claim the vital extra half point.

An open Division 2 saw West Witney take advantage of leaders Banbury Chestnuts’ blank week by snatching top spot with a 97-69 win at home to Watlington.

Kevin Alder’s men were the top performers, coming out on top 28-15 as all four rinks went to the home side in the 6-0 win.

Division 3 leadersAdderbury beat guests Witney Town 5½-½, with 17-shot wins for both Chris Skidmore and Phil Gladden’s rinks.

Malcolm Bracewell’s 27-19 success ensured The Oxford won a tight clash 4-2 at home to Headington B.

Blackbird Leys won the meeting of the bottom two, as visitors Banbury Central B lost 80-73.

Steve O’Keefe’s 11-shot winning margin was enough to snatch a 4-2 victory.

Bloxham maintained their position at the top of Division 4, thanks to a 5-1 win at third-placed Woodstock.

Second-placed Chadlington also kept up their promotion effort with an away win, seeing off Florence Park 75-70 to collect five points.

Graham Haynes’s men delivered a 42-7 win on their rink to help Hanborough claim a 4-2 victory at South Oxford B.
