CRICKET: Students toil in The Parks as Middlesex call tune

Oxford MCCU have a mountain to climb on the last day of their match against Middlesex in The Parks.

Replying to the visitors’ first-innings 430-4 dec, the students were shot out for just 57 as only Steve Leach reached double figures.

Left-arm seamer Gurjit Sandhu was the chief destroyer with 4-16, while slow left-arm spinner Ravi Patel took 3-8.

Adam Rossington and Joe Denly hit half-centuries in Middlesex’s second innings, Rossington missing a ton by two runs, before they declared on 188-4, setting Oxford a target of 618.

The students lost Leach before closing on 34-1, still requiring 528 for victory.
