Thame Town were the only Oxfordshire side to win in the top flight as they cruised past local rivals Tiddington, who stay rooted to the bottom of the table.

Tiddington’s poor start to the season continued as Cian Davies (4-21) helped reduce them to 135 all out.

James Neilson (57) then held together Thame’s reply, and despite losing wickets at regular intervals, they soon reached 136-5.

Oxford Downs threw away a winning position in losing by 11 runs at home to Buckingham Town.

The visitors’ flying start saw them blast 22-0 from two overs, but that soon became 29-4 and then 61-6 in the 26th.

Amin Rafiq finished with 3-35 and Tom Costley with 3-42, but Ben Stafford’s patient 35 was to prove invaluable as Town closed on 139-9.

Downs looked like sailing to victory when Wasim Mehmood (36) helped bring up the 50 for the loss of only one wicket, before they slumped to 80-6.

Skipper Will Watts’s 33 was in vain as Jack Parish (4-27) wrapped up the tail.

Twyford reached 216-8 from their 53 overs at Cumnor, which always looked like being too many.

Kumber Hussain hit an unbeaten 56 while Tanvir Hussain and Saad Khari made 32 apiece. Sam Jones (3-29) was the pick of the home attack.

Cumnor had hope while Ali Morteza was at the crease, but he was left stranded on 67 not out as Bilal Afzal (4-42), Zawar Hussain (3-42) and Mark Stanway (3-43) worked their way through the rest to bowl out the hosts for 177.

Banbury 2nd somehow clung on for a draw at Great Brickhill as final pair Steve Hart and Neil Megson batted out the final five overs to avert defeat.

George Morris had made 31, while Hart took 3-24 in Brickhill’s modest 148-9.

An outstanding performance from George Humphries – who took 6-25 from 15 overs with eight maidens – looked like winning it for the home side, as all of Banbury’s batsmen were outscored by the 30 wides delivered by Brickhill.

But Hart and Megson saw them to 126-9 and safety.

Division 2

Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts were bowled out for just 92, but still went on to prevail by four runs in a tense finish to their Division 2 match with Abingdon Vale.

Visitors Vale could manage only 88 in reply and so find themselves at the foot of the table after the first month.

Asked to bat first in damp conditions, Nondies were in trouble from the start.

Joe Butcher’s fine opening burst removed the top three in no time, and it was left to Jon Guthrie (40) to try to salvage the innings.

However, Vale’s mercurial left-arm spinner Paul White was in no mood to relinquish control, removing Guthrie before ripping through the tail to leave Nondies deep in trouble.

The visitors’ innings also got off to a spluttering start, with opener Amith Premkumar (32) watching a procession of wickets from the non-striker’s end.

Once he was removed by the miserly Mark Strong, who finished with 3-17 from 14 overs, Vale’s hopes faded.

Arfan Ahmed returned to deliver the final, fatal blows – White the last man out after missing a straight one.

The win takes Nondies clear at the top, while Vale will hardly believe that they failed to chase such a low total.

Challow & Childrey recovered from the depths of 83-6 chasing Horspath 2nd’s 149 all out to pull off an unlikely win.

Chris Warboys was the hero for the visitors, hitting an unbeaten 32 while marshalling the tail in the closing stages.

Horspath’s innings featured 53 from Luke Finch and some fine bowling by Ryan Gordon (4-27).

Despite their modest total, the home side was soon in command as left-arm seamer Andy Cummings (4-29) helped reduce Challow to 41-5 in the 14th over – only for Warboys to turn the match on its head.
