CRICKET: Tew skipper Harris shrugs off Shipton appeal

Oxford Mail: Great & Little Tew's Curtly Slatter is at the centre of the dispute Great & Little Tew's Curtly Slatter is at the centre of the dispute

Great & Little Tew captain Andy Harris says Curtly Slatter is eligible to play in the Davidstow Village Cup, despite an appeal from Shipton-under-Wychwood.

A change in the rules for this year’s competition means players become ineligible if they appear in any Minor Counties match during 2013 or 2014.

However, clubs have been able to secure dispensation from the organisers in certain cases.

Shipton captain Simon Hole said yesterday that they would be challenging whether Slatter, who helped Tew beat Shipton in the Oxfordshire semi-final, was eligible for the competition.

This was because Slatter played once for Oxfordshire in the 2013 Minor Counties Championship.

Harris, however, confirmed that after asking for dispensation, Tew had received an email from the organisers declaring Slatter eligible.

Horspath received similar permission to play brothers Will and Robbie Eason, who both represented Oxon last year.

Shipton also feel aggrieved that they could not get clearance to field opening batsman Joe Barrett, who played twice for Oxfordshire in 2013.

In the Oxon final on Sunday, Tew are due to host Cumnor, who overcame county champions and hosts Tiddington by 99 runs last weekend.

Opener Matt Lake starred with a superb 125 off 74 balls, with 12 fours and eight sixes, as Cumnor made 255-9 off their 40 overs after being put in to bat.

Tiddington were in with a chance while Chris Goodman (56) and John Mackie (45) were together.

But after their third-wicket stand was broken, Tiddington slumped to 156 all out, with young off-spinner Max Mannering taking 3-21, while skipper John Williams picked up 3-8.
