Zoe Shipperley was part of the England’s women team that lost 2-1 to the United States in their opening match in Holland leaving them little margin for error in Group B.
Penalty corner strikes from Paige Selenski and Kelsey Kolojejchick put the US 2-0 up.
Kate Richardson-Walsh clawed one back they could not find the equaliser.
Shipperley, who lives at Marsh Gibbon near Bicester, is a teacher at St Edward’s School, Oxford.
