Striker Lauren Allison could hardly contain her delight after scoring deep into stoppage time to earn Oxford United their first point in the FA Women’s Super League 2 at home to local rivals Reading yesterday.

Allison netted 50 times for the U’s last season, but was yet to get off the mark before her timely goal against the Royals.

“I left it a while, but I’m glad it came when it did,” she said of her first WSL goal. “There’s no better feeling than a last-minute goal, to be honest.

“We’ve hit the net twice today at home and I just hope more can keep coming.”

Manager Les Taylor admitted his relief at the result and believes Oxford can now push on and claim more positive results.

He said: “We’d only scored one in the league so to get two today against one of the better sides in the league was great.

“It’s great confidence-wise for Lauren Allison. I think we’ve got a little bit more to come from Lauren and hopefully that’s a little bit of a confidence boost for her.”
