Bicester light middleweight Daza Usher was philosophical after losing to Mitch Buckland by a close points decision at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff.

Usher, who at ten stone 2lbs was three ounces heavier than his southpaw opponent, worked behind the jab and kept a tight defence in the opening rounds.

Although the rounds were close, Buckland had his hand raised by the referee with a unanimous decision.

“I feel so lucky to be part of a big event like this,” said Usher.

“I obviously didn’t get the decision I was after but I thought I boxed well and gave a good account of myself.

“Buckland is a great fighter and I hope he goes on to win a British title.

“I’ve learned a lot from this fight and will be looking to make improvements for my next one.”

Meanwhile, Windrush Valley’s Nathan Hall controversially lost out on points to Gloucester’s Brad Ingram in the pre-quarter finals of the England Boxing Junior Championships at Banbury’s Woodgreen leisure centre on Saturday.

While he was disappointed to lose out in the 54-57kg contest, the club’s head coach Steve Setch hopes Hall will learn from the experience.

He said: “Next year we will see much more from Nathan.”
