AUNT SALLY: Three Pigeons are flying high
8:30am Wednesday 21st May 2014 in Sport
NEIL Lyon’s 18-doll haul saw the Three Pigeons continue their super start to the season, writes ANDY BEAL.
Lyon’s triple-sixer helped his side to a 3-0 home victory over Yarnton British Legion and means they are yet to drop a leg in this season’s top flight.
Kevin Giles chipped in with 15 dolls (6-5-4) and Dave Townsend hit 14 (4-5-5) in leg scores of 34-23, 32-26, 32-28. Henry Johnson (4-5-4) was top dog for the Legion.
Geoff Townsend was in fine form with 15 dolls (6-5-4) as Cricketers begin their fightback to retain the title with a 3-0 victory at The Black Prince, thanks to leg scores of 29-19, 30-25, 26-23.
Promoted to the top division, Gladiators took maximum points at home to New Club A.
Chris Jenkins (6-5-4) led the way in a 27-26, 31-18, 30-21 victory.
In Section 2, The Woodman’s Charlie Buckingham bagged a six in his 14-doll haul (3-5-6), but it was all in vain as they lost 2-1 at Chequers A.
Derek Thomas clanged off a baker’s dozen (6-5-2) for Crown A in their 3-0 win at home to Kennington Social Club in Section 3.
The first leg was settled on three sticks after it was tied 21-21, with the Crown making sure of maximum points in the next two legs 21-14, 19-13.
There was very little to separate Bullnose Morris A and Vikings Sports A as two legs went to a shoot-out.
Bullnose won the opener 17-12 and then took a 2-0 lead in the next leg on three sticks after it finished tied at 16-16.
The final leg finished all-square at 18-18, however Vikings grabbed a point by winning on three sticks.
In Section 4, James Morrison was the star for Masons Arms B as he clanged off 13 dolls (4-5-4) in their 2-1 success at the George, who won the first leg 19-15.
Vikings Sports D just got the better over North Oxford Conservative Club in Section 5.
North Oxford anchor man Mick Richardson hit four dolls to take the opening leg to a three-stick shoot-out, but Vikings held their nerve to go ahead.
A 21-13 success in the second leg sealed victory, but Richardson hit the two dolls required in the finale to give North Oxford a point.
In Section 6, Brill Sports Club’s John Burnell hit 13 dolls (3-5-5), but it could not prevent them going down to a 2-1 defeat at Three Horseshoes B.
Jon Dunhill (3-4-5) was on song for the victors.
Warwick Morris whipped of 12 dolls (5-2-5) as Six Bells B Kidlington beat Kings Arms B 3-0 in Section 7, while Nathan O’Donnell also hit a dozen (5-3-4) as Prince Of Wales beat The Blackbird 2-1.
