Lawrence Clarke returned to his best with back-to-back victories over the weekend, writes STUART WEIR.
The 110m hurdler, from Christmas Common, has only just returned to competitive athletics action after injury.
But Clarke proved he is over his problems with a super display which saw him record the Commonwealth Games selection time when winning the BT Great City Games in Manchester on Saturday.
A day later, he landed the Loughborough International.
“I was really glad that I got the Commonwealth selection time, which was my target for the weekend,” said Clarke after crossing the line in 13.51secs in Manchester.
“It’s a big weight off my shoulders.”
Clarke, fourth in the London 2012 Olympic final, beat former World Championship medallist Andy Turner on the specially-built four-lane track in the city centre.
“The track here is seriously quick,” he said.
“The event is bizarre, but an amazing experience.
“The only slight issue is that the track moves slightly under your feet, so going into the hurdles feels a bit weird and you have to adjust a little.
“But if you’ve done a proper warm-up, you’re fine.”
Yesterday, Clarke won in a time of 13.56, with Ben Reynolds second in 13.79.
The Commonwealth Games in July are now his focus.
“I was third in the 2010 Commonwealth Games with a hip flexor injury, so if I can get to Glasgow fully fit, anything is possible,” he said.
