NATHAN Trevett says it is time for London Welsh’s front row to impose themselves on Leeds Carnegie after too often playing second fiddle.
The loose-head prop has been a mainstay of Welsh’s scrum, which has generally been on top this season.
But he admitted tomorrow’s opponents have caused them problems.
“It’s going to be massive up front,” said Trevett.
“We’ve said it all along and it’s been quite evident, especially at the start of the season, our pack is big and has won us some games.
“But we have got the firepower behind and, if I’m honest, Leeds have done well against us this season.
“They have probably been one of the packs we have struggled against, especially at scrum time.
“I don’t know why. I guess they have done their homework and have peformed against us.
“In the three games we have played, we have possibly come out second best, especially in the scrum area, which is not nice for us.
“We have done live scrums this week and we are coming here to hopefully show why our front eight can win us games.”
The former Cardiff Blues man is relishing his first experience of the play-offs.
“If there is a time for us to pull our finger out, so to speak, then it is definitely this weekend with being seven points down,” he said.
“A penalty at a scrum could win you the game or lose it – it’s up to us to front up and I’m sure we will.”
Trevett also pointed to the Exiles’ strong form at the Kassam Stadium, with only London Scottish having beaten them there this season.
“We have only lost one game at home,” he said.
“Teams like Rotherham, Bristol and Leeds have all come here and we have managed to win quite comfortably in those games.
“We have had a good week training and the biggest thing we need is a massive start.
“We were 13 points down at Headingley early on. If we do the same this time, it could be tie over.
“I know that when we are under pressure, that’s when we perform at our best.”
