Oxfordshire's Olympic gold medallists, Andy Triggs Hodge and Alex Gregory, will race in the Great Britain men’s four in the European Championships in Belgrade.

Triggs Hodge, from Oxford, and Henley’s Gregory won gold in that boat at London 2012, but raced in the World Championship-winning eight last season.

However, yesterday they were named in the four for the May 30 to June 1 event, with Mohamed Sbihi and George Nash their new crewmates as the build-up to Brazil 2016 intensifies.

The quartet were in the top two pairs at the recent GB trials, with the Gregory-Sbihi combination taking the title.

Alan Sinclair and Nathaniel Reilly O’Donnell, from the Leander Club at Henley, who were third in that final, have been selected in the men’s pair.

Oxford Blue and Henley’s Pete Reed, the other member of the London 2012 four still competing, stays in the eight.

Brothers Richard and Peter Chambers, both former Oxford Brookes students, plus fellow London 2012 silver medallist, Leander’s Chris Bartley, return to the lightweight men’s four alongside Mark Aldred.

Oxford’s Olivia Carnegie Brown will stroke the women’s eight, coxed by Leander’s Zoe de Toledo.

Polly Swann (Leander) will race with Olympic champion Helen Glover in the pair.

And Frances Houghton, from Wheatley, teams up with Leander clubmate Victoria Thornley in the double scull.
